In the beginning of the report on the activities of the Trauma System, Dr. Hamid Heidari, explained the traumatic events during the last year and provided the relevant statistics. According to reports, the deaths due to traffic accidents in Guilan's roads was similar to that of Kermanshah earthquake, 14 times more than that of Sanchi oil tanker disaster or 9 times more than that of Tehran-Yasuj plane crash. He then presented the measures taken to develop the trauma data bank, general and specialized educational contents, as well as the interventions of Guilan's Trauma System in the events of the last Red Wednesday and in road accidents of Nowruz 2018. Dr. Shahrokh Yousefzadeh-Chabak, the chancellor of Guilan University of Medical Sciences and head of the Guilan Road Trauma Research Center, referred to the Trauma System Plan in 2004, insisting that at that time we believed that by doing this project, there would be a significant reduction in related deaths, and it was true. So that, 28,000 cases of road traffic accidents in 2005 reduced to 15,000, therefore, the scientific discussions should expand. At that time, we predicted that a reduction would happen and it really happened.

Dr. Yousefzadeh pointed out that with the usual social measures, we cannot go further, adding that the Trauma System (the integrated coordinated system in the geographical area with a unit management) should exist in the society and, fortunately, the related organizations concluded that this is possible only in the form of a trauma system.

He continued that in the recent intervention during Nowruz (Iranian New Year holiday), even with the high number of tourists visiting Guilan, there was a significant reduction in the number of hospital deaths and deaths during transfer to hospital. In the end, Dr.Youssefzadeh stated his hopes that the conditions for a strong infrastructure for Trauma Data Bank would be provided, suggesting that the government should invest and expand inter-organizational coordination.
